Update issued on works to Mayo church

Restoration works are continuing at Kiltimagh Church.
It is expected that the repair and conservation works to the Church of The Holy Family in Kiltimagh, will be completed by next February. The works, which were initially estimated to cost over €500,000, commenced in the summer of 2023.
The architects have submitted a report outlining the progress to date.
The external pointing of the stone at the front of the building is now complete and all the barge stones have been reinstated. The external lime render to the main gable is complete, and the lime render has been painted. The reroofing of the pitched and flat roofs is complete and the aluminium roof-light is due to be fitted imminently. The cleaning of the external stone to the porch and the removal of the scaffolding will be carried out before mid-December.
The works to the internal porch, sacristy and St Joseph's Chapel are progressing. The first fix of the electrical and mechanical installation is complete. The existing staircase has been removed and the opening adapted to facilitate the installation of the new staircase. The order for the new staircase has been placed, with an expected delivery date of early December. The existing walls to the entrance porch and arches are being plastered at the moment, the finish coat of plaster is in progress. The dry-lining of the new sacristy and St Joseph's Chapel is progressing following the completion of the lining, these walls will be skimcoat plastered.
The glazed screens to the rear of the church together with the doors etc have been ordered and will be one of the last items to be fitted. The existing organ has been removed. Following removal of the organ, there are sections of the wall that need to be repaired and some repairs needed to the floor; this work is in hand. The order has been placed for the furniture for the sacristy and also for chairs to St Joseph's Chapel. These are expected to be delivered in the next couple of weeks.
