Two new directors appointed in sweeping management changes at Mayo County Council
David Mellett
The former Head of the Castlebar Municipal District has been congratulated on his promotion to the role of Director of Services with Mayo County Council as part of a management reshuffle.
David Mellett has been promoted to a role directing Infrastructure and Emergency Response with his directorate responsible for marine infrastructure, smarter travel, machinery yard and building control.
Councillors in the Castlebar Municipal District congratulated Mr Mellett on his new role at last week’s meeting.
“Congratulations to David on his elevation in this competitive field. Your opinion has been superb and we want to express gratitude for the work that you have done,” said MD Cathaoirleach Al McDonnell.
Mr Mellett said he was excited to begin work in his new role.
“I acknowledge all of your kind words. I have enjoyed my years in the Castlebar MD. It was challenging but rewarding and we had a great team delivering for this district,” he said.
Mr Mellett’s promotion comes as part of sweeping management changes in the wake of the retirement of John Condon last November.
Elsewhere, Siofra Kilcullen has been promoted to the role of Director of Services for Corporate Services, Human Resources and Organisational Efficiency, which also includes responsibility for arts and culture, health and safety, procurement, internal audit and organisational change. Ms Kilcullen previously worked as Head of Human Resources and Training with the council.
Catherine McConnell is now in charge of Housing and Town Centre Development with responsibility for derelict sites, urban renewal, conservation and heritage.
Joanne Grehan now takes responsibility for Planning, Economic Development, Environment and Climate Change with additional responsibility for agriculture, cemeteries and biodiversity.
Former Housing director Tom Gilligan is now over Tourism, Community, Integration and Leisure with responsibility for sport and leisure facilities.
Peter Duggan remains as Director of Finance and ICT with responsibility for motor tax.
