Two new directors appointed in sweeping management changes at Mayo County Council

The former Head of the Castlebar Municipal District has been congratulated on his promotion to the role of Director of Services with Mayo County Council as part of a management reshuffle.

David Mellett has been promoted to the role directing Infrastructure and Emergency Response with his directorate responsible for marine infrastructure, smarter travel, machinery yard and building control.

Councillors in the Castlebar MD congratulated Mr Mellett on his new role at last week’s MD meeting.

“Congratulations to David on his elevation in this competitive field. His opinion has been superb and we want to express gratitude for the work that you have done,” said MD Cathaoirleach Al McDonnell.

“Since David came into his role as Head of the MD, he has seriously pushed projects in Castlebar so it is great have some continuation,” said Cllr Cyril Burke.

Mr Mellett said he was excited to begin work in his new role.

“I acknowledge all of your kind words. I have enjoyed my years in the Castlebar MD. It was challenging but rewarding and we had a great team delivering for this District,” he said.

Mr Mellett’s promotion comes as part of sweeping management changes in the wake of the retirement of John Condon last November.

Elsewhere, Siofra Kilcullen has been newly appointed as Director of Services for Corporate Services, Human Resources and Organisational Efficiency, which also includes responsibility for arts and culture, health and safety, procurement, internal audit and organisational change.

Catherine McConnell is now over Housing and Town Centre Development with responsibility for derelict sites, URDF 3, conservation and heritage.

Joanne Grehan is now over Planning, Economic Development, Environment and Climate Change with additional responsibility for agriculture, cemeteries and biodiversity.

Former Housing director Tom Gilligan is now over Tourism, Community, Integration and Leisure with responsibility for sport and leisure facilities.

Peter Duggan is director of Finance and ICT with responsibility for motor tax.
