Twelve candidates poised for election in Sligo-Leitrim

Candidates running in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency in the next General Election, which is rumoured to be announced this week, will be attempting to win one of four seats.
Three of the four outgoing TDs will contest this election, however, former Fianna Fáil TD Marc McSharry has announced he will not be contesting the next General Election.
Independent Deputy Marian Harkin is one of the three hoping to retain her seat, having returned to the Dáil in 2020 after a 15-year stint as an MEP.
Among those attempting to retain their seat is the sole Fine Gael candidate Deputy Frank Feighan.
Fianna Fáil had initially just one candidate on the General Election ticket in Sligo-Leitrim. Cllr Edel McSharry, a cousin of Marc McSharry and niece of former TD Ray McSharry, was the only candidate whose name went forward at the party’s Selection Convention. Former TD Eamon Scanlon recently joined her on the ticket and will be seeking a return to Dáil Eireann having lost his seat in 2020.
Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny, who topped the poll in 2020, will be on the ballot again and has former MEP Chris McManus as a running mate.
Independent Ireland have put forward Cllr Michael Clarke as an candidate after he joined the party in mid-October. Cllr Nessa Cosgrove has been selected as a candidate by the Labour Party.
Aontú have selected Graham Monaghan as a candidate in Sligo-Leitrim. Bláithín Gallagher has been chosen to run for the Green Party. Michael Kelly has been selected as the candidate for The Irish People Party.
