Jimmy was a hugley respected Maths teacher in St Gerald's school in Castlebar for many years.
He was also a member of Bohola Moy Davitts, who paid tribute to him on social media.
"It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we acknowledge the passing of our dear friend, mentor and valued club member, Jimmy Hennigan.
"His association with the club spanned more than 50 years — a connection that deserves to be honoured and remembered. During his footballing career, he played with distinction at all levels for club, college and county.
"For many years he was the cornerstone of our community, driving both the foundational development and sporting progress that defines who we are today. Without his vision, dedication, and tireless work ethic our club would not have grown to what we know today.
"He was the person we turned to in moments of uncertainty to avail of his experience and sharp intuition. Whether navigating complex club decisions or guiding players and members through challenges, his advice was always sought and followed.
"He was never the man to shout from the sidelines, but he would regularly and quietly place a hand on your shoulder and impart a short, detailed message that would often be the difference between winning and losing a game.
"Across those years, much changed, but Jimmy’s connection with Moy Davitts remained. Jimmy’s long association with our club form part of the story of Moy Davitts GAA Club, and we honour that enduring connection with appreciation and respect.
"While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his remarkable legacy in our club. We extend our deepest sympathy to Jimmy’s family, friends and all who mourn his passing. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
"We hope the memories they hold dear will bring comfort in the days ahead and on behalf of Moy Davitts GAA Club, we remember Jimmy with gratitude for his long association with our club."
