Three arrested during targeted operation in Mayo

During a targeted operation focusing on unsafe driving behaviours and drug related activities in Mayo, Gardaí from the Mayo South Community Engagement Area, the Roads Policing Unit, the Divisional Drugs Unit and the Garda Dog Unit were out in force to detect offences and apply the law where necessary. 

During this operation, they: 

- Tested 43 drivers for Drink/Drugs 

- Arrested 3 people on suspicion of intoxicated driving 

- Seized 3 cars 

- Seized 2 e-scooters 

- Detected 3 people in possession of controlled drugs 

- Issued 17 fines for offences including speeding, driving without reasonable consideration, no tax, no NCT, no N plates, unaccompanied learner driving and non confirming reg plates.

Inspector Maria Hayes of Westport Garda Station said, "Keeping our communities safe on the roads is a priority, and operations such as this are part of a continuing effort and not just a once off. We are, and will continue to be, out on the roads day and night to keep road users safe, and will not tolerate illicit or dangerous behaviour by some road users".
