SPINI VR hosts groundbreaking open day at Ireland West Airport Knock

The event marked a significant step forward in making air travel more inclusive.
SPINI VR is proud to announce the success of its first Open Day held at Ireland West Airport on July 18, dedicated to supporting neurodiverse travellers and their families.
The event marked a significant step forward in making air travel more inclusive, empowering individuals with autism, ADHD, and sensory sensitivities to explore the world with greater confidence and reduced anxiety.
The Open Day welcomed families and individuals from across the region to experience SPINI VR’s innovative assisted technology — a first-of-its-kind solution that allows users to regulate while passing through the airport and prior to departing.
Hosted in partnership with Ireland West Airport, the event featured a sensory-friendly zone, staff overview sessions, and live demonstrations of the SPINI VR system — developed specifically to help neurodiverse travellers regulate using calming VR content and SPINI’s signature motion chair.
“This event is part of our mission to remove barriers to travel for those who experience the world differently,” said Martin Lavelle, Director at SPINI VR. “By combining immersive technology with compassion and design thinking, we’re helping to make the skies a more inclusive space for everyone.”
Airport staff, education professionals, and local organisations supporting neurodivergent individuals were in attendance, underlining the strong community and industry support for initiatives that prioritise accessibility and inclusion in public transport settings.
SPINI VR now plans to expand its solution to other transport hubs and workplaces and is actively inviting interested stakeholders to collaborate in rolling out this sensory-regulating travel solution across Ireland and beyond.
