Concerns have been expressed about road safety at the Windy Gap.
Councillors have urged Mayo County Council to take action on a dangerous section of road at the Windy Gap near the town.
Castlebar councillors made the comments at a recent meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
Cllr Blackie Gavin said the road needs immediate attention. Cllr Martin McLoughlin said a protective barrier was damaged in an accident involving a truck several years ago and never replaced.
“It needs to be done before the winter sets in,” said Cllr McLoughlin. He said he feared another serious accident would occur if action was not taken.
Cllr Donna Sheridan said the road has become “scary”, adding: “It’s absolutely terrifying.”
The council is expected to carry out some works next year.
