Sadness following passing of the man who brought a "little bit of Milan to Mayo"
The late Gerry McGuire.
Ballina is morning the loss of leading businessman Gerry McGuire.
Mr McGuire, of Bohernasup, Ballina and late of Tone Street, passed away peacefully, at the Riverview Nursing Home, Ballina.
The popular businessman established Gerry McGuire Shoes on O’Rahilly Street which continues to be a thriving business with stores in Ballina and Castlebar.
Gerry and Bridie McGuire started their first store in Ballina in 1969.
They set out to bring “a little bit of Milan to Mayo,” and built one of the west of Ireland’s leading shoe boutiques.
Gerry is predeceased by his beloved wife Bridie, brothers Brendan and Jim.
He was the loving father of Brendan, John (Galway), Darragh (Kerry) and Kate.
Gerry will be greatly missed by his loving sons, daughter, daughters-in-law Marie, Michelle and Catriona, Kate’s partner Ray, grandchildren Maeve, Sinéad, Emer, Charlie, Matthew, Zoe, Abbie, Daniel and Aidan, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Reposal takes place at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina this evening (Monday) from 6pm until 8pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at St Muredach’s Cathedra tomorrow morning at 11.30am followed by burial in Leigue cemetery, Ballina.
