Progress on Active Travel schemes in Claremorris
A Claremorris councillor has called on Mayo County Council to continue with the upgrade of the N60 from Kiltimagh junction to Mount St Michael Secondary School in the town, to include lighting, cycle lane, upgrade of footpaths, narrowing of road carriageway and pedestrian crossings.
In a notice of motion at the recent meeting of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District, Cllr Richard Finn said €2m has already been spent and this extension will complete the loop around the town.
In a written reply, Acting Head of Roads Conrad Harley stated: “This was an original Active Travel scheme and is still listed as 'N60 Claremoris Cycle scheme', but it has yet to progress.
"The next step in this scheme is the appointment of consultants to commence the design process. There is already two further Active Travel/Safe Routes to School schemes due to progress in Claremorris, one increasing the footpaths on either side of St Colman's College and a second scheme at the national school on Killcolman Road. Both are due to progress in 2026.”
