Price and trade steady on a busy day at Castlerea Mart

More stock is being presented for sale as we enter mid-September.
Prices and trade remain steady as more customers start to appear as they try to source stock for further feeding.
The bullock ring witnessed good demand for quality stores with the top lots exceeding €5.00 a kilo, while the heavier lots made up to €3350.
The heifer ring with a top price of €5.51 a kilo for a breeding heifer, was achieved, while forward lots made up to €2860. Dry cows made up to €3120 and cows with calves at foot made up to €3420 and springers hit €2510.
Calves and runners remain a very lively trade with a good attendance of buyers both ringside and online. The weanling ring is noticing numbers increasing, as the bulls peaked at €6.16 a kilo while the heifer weanlings hit €5.94 a kilo.
