There is positive news for Castlebar with the awarding of a trading licence for the operation of a coffee dock at Lough Lannagh.

“I have campaigned for a number of years to see this facility located at the lake, and following the introduction of the new trading by-laws adopted by Castlebar members last year, a suitable area was identified and developed. This will be a great addition to a wonderful amenity already enjoyed by hundreds of people every day,” said Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere, adding that the move is among a number of new additions for Lough Lannagh.

“Just before Christmas, we also received confirmation of funding for the installation of outdoor showers and lockers, and discussions are progressing with providers interested in operating saunas in the area.

“I have also received a commitment after another long campaign that a water station will be installed, and the second phase of the skate park will commence in the coming months,” said Cllr Deere. “I want to wish the new coffee dock operator every success and encourage everyone to support this fantastic addition to the lakeside,” he added.

The dock will operate five days a week (Wednesday to Sunday) from 8am to 6pm with a review of opening hours to take place after three months. The facility is due to start trading next month.
