'Pillar of Ballina community' remembered following death
May she rest in peace.
The death has taken place of Marian Browne (née Hanley), Convent Hill Crescent, Ballina and formerly of Carrowmacbrien, Rathlee, Co Sligo.
Marian was a pillar of the community in Ballina for her decades-long involvement in local organisations.
A spirited, caring and hard-working volunteer, she was secretary of Ballina Stephenites GAA Club and Bord na nÓg for several years and was also strongly associated with other local organisations, including Order of Malta Ballina, Ballina Squash Club and 5th Mayo Scout Group.
In 2023, Marian was the recipient of the Ballina Salmon Festival Spirit of the Festival Award, recognising her long and selfless service to the festival and the wider Ballina community.
She will be sadly missed by her sons Seamus and Peter, brother Micheál, sister-in-law Martina, brothers-in-law Simon and Jimmy, sister-in-law Patricia, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Micheál and parents Michael John and Mary.
Marian reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Thursday evening last.
Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Friday, followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.
