Cllr John Caulfield has confirmed that Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) has commenced the process of refurbishing and activating the old Vocational School in Charlestown.
Cllr Caulfield said: "It is very welcome news for Charlestown that the MSLETB is to revitalise the existing campus on the Ballyhaunis Road in the town and to return training services to the building.
“The works will involve an initial reconfiguration of the ground floor and upgrade to provide three learning classrooms with ancillary uses such as office, kitchenette, storage and toilet facilities.
“Following the completion of this initial phase of work, the MSLETB will then strategically plan what additional services would be most beneficial to the locality and then intend to utilitise the remainder of the building and potentially the whole campus.
“The schedule of accommodation as part of the initial upgrade works will include an accessible entrance, large classroom with lobby and storeroom, two classrooms, kitchenette, toilet block, accessible WC and store/office.
“It is fantastic to see this building being reused as a centre of learning. I was delighted to work with MSLETB on this development and I congratulate them on their plans for the campus. I look forward to Charlestown and the surrounding areas reaping the benefits of this development in the years ahead."
