Businesses across north Mayo are continuing to deal with the fallout from Storm Eowyn on the January 23.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre, located at Enniscoe, near Crossmolina lost its internet and phone connections as a result of the storm.

Almost two months later, the outage has still not been repaired. Despite the damage caused, and the loss of business resulting from the unprecedented delays in having repairs carried out by Eir, the Centre is doing its best to operate.

Staff are working remotely to ensure that the Centre's genealogical research service continues to operate fully. Work in the Organic Garden continues. However without a functioning phone and internet service, the difficulties are many.

Despite limiting the Centre’s ability to plan and run larger scale events, it is still hoped to press ahead with events planned for April, the first being a plant sale on the 5th and 6th, and the market on the 5th.

However, the market may be in jeopardy, and patrons are advised that no card payments can be accepted at these events as the Centre’s point of sale facilities require an internet connection. Updates for these events can be found on the Centre’s social media channels.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre is very thankful to its clients and patrons, at home and overseas, who have supported the Centre during this difficult period.

It is hoped that continued public and political pressure will see a resolution to the connectivity outages which have hampered businesses since January.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre is supported by Pobal under its Community Services Programme.
