Yesterday, Gardai from Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out a speed checkpoint yesterday between Knock and Ballyhaunis, when they detected a car travelling at a speed of 128KPH in an 80KPH zone.
An Garda Síochána Mayo said, "When the vehicle was stopped, Gardai noticed an extremely worn front tyre. FCPNs (penalty points and fines) were issued to the driver in relation to these Road Traffic offences."
Another incident came to the notice of Gardai when the Garda ANPR system detected a vehicle with no insurance. The vehicle was stopped by Gardai, and the vehicle was subsequently impounded for no insurance. The driver will now face court proceedings.
