Straide’s Michael Davitt Museum is planning to enhance and revamp its visitor experience, the Mayo tourist attraction has announced.

The museum, which offers guided tours and an insight into one of Ireland’s historical figures Michael Davitt (1846 - 1906), will work alongside Dara Lynne Lenehan of EPIC Interpretive Design to map out a comprehensive plan for an experience uplift.

“We want to bring in more interactivity for children, make it more family-friendly and ensure the museum is accessible for all visitors,” Yvonne Corcoran Loftus, Curator of the Michael Davitt Museum, told the Western People.

Fáilte Ireland has supported this project by providing funding for the museum’s comprehensive plan which, Loftus says, “helped bring her vision to life”.

“Following the plan’s completion, we hope to secure the necessary funds through various sources to carry out the work,” the museum’s curator remarked.

“This renovation is not just a facelift for the museum but a crucial investment in the cultural and economic vitality of County Mayo. As we enhance our offerings, we also strengthen our county's appeal as a premier destination for tourists from around the globe.”

She added: “This project is a clear indication of our ongoing commitment to elevating the visitor experience, ensuring that each person who comes to our county leaves with lasting memories and a deep appreciation of our rich heritage.”
