Mayo town reveals plans for big screen event for All-Ireland Final

The Mall in Castlebar will be a sea of green and read as the open space plays host to a giant outdoor screen for Mayo’s All-Ireland Final clash with Kerry on Sunday.

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and Mayo County Council have collaborated to organise the community event. Local businesses have also been praised for backing the occasion.

An eight-metre-wide LED screen will be set up on the large green space where supporters can soak up all the atmosphere of the big match.

"This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when a community works together. A huge amount of effort has gone into bringing this event to Castlebar.

"We are incredibly grateful to Mayo County Council, our Chamber committee and all of the local businesses who have supported us in making it happen,” said Castlebar Chamber President, Maria Staunton.

"We hope people from across Mayo will come together, enjoy the atmosphere and get behind the team as we cheer on the Green and Red,” she added.

"The Mall is at the heart of Castlebar and it is wonderful to see it becoming a gathering place for the community to come together for such an important sporting occasion,” said Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, Cllr Ger Deere.

"Mayo supporters have always shown incredible passion for the team, and I am delighted to work with Castlebar Chamber and local businesses in helping to create a memorable experience for everyone attending,” Cllr Deere added.

Fans are being encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot on the Mall.

The big screen plan was initially proposed at a recent meeting of Mayo County Council with Cllr Blackie Gavin leading the appeal to the local authority which was backed by some of his fellow Castlebar councillors.
