Mayo town had highest temperature nationally during April

The highest temperature recorded during the month of April was in Mayo.
With sunshine and temperatures higher than average across the country as spring finally arrived, Claremorris was the hottest spot in the nation with a temperature of 21.3C recorded in the South Mayo town on April 24.
The mean temperature for April was 9.69C, making it the 12th warmest April since 1900.
Rainfall was also above average in most places last month and the highest daily rainfall occurred in Belmullet on April 4 when 38.66mm of rain fell.
The number of rain days (a day in which more than 0.2mm of rain is measured) ranged from 13 days at a few stations to 21 days at Belmullet.
The latest Met Éireann Climate Statement showed last month was mild and quite sunny overall, wet in the West and dry in the East.
All stations recorded temperatures above their 1991-2020 Long-Term Average.
However, April was also wetter than normal, with 92.7mm of rain recorded.
It was the 21st wettest April since 1941.
Mace Head in Co Galway had its wettest April on record, as 109.8mm of rain fell, while two stations in the east - Phoenix Park and Casement Aerodrome, Co Dublin - had dry spells, lasting 15 days between April 16 and April 30.
