On Monday, September 15th, the Mayo Older Person’s Council (OPC) held a successful annual general meeting and information day at the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar. The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders, service providers, and community members to celebrate and support older people in Mayo.

The event was officially opened by Cathaoirleach of Mayo Co Council, Cllr Sean Carey, who welcomed attendees and acknowledged the importance of the council’s work in promoting age-friendly initiatives.

A series of informative and engaging presentations were delivered by John Condon, Acting Chief Executive, Mayo County Council; Jacqueline Kilcullen, Chairperson of Mayo OPC; Mairead Cranley, Age-Friendly North Regional Manager; Ann Marie McGing, Mayo Arts Service; Marie Nolan, Regional Programme Manager, Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme; Garda Michael Toland and Garda Olive Lafferty, Castlebar Community Gardaí; Aileen O’Connell, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mayo Fire Service; Michelle Prendergast, Nick Burrill, and Marie Alexander from the Integrated Care Programme for Older People and Sr Maureen Lally, Mayo Age-Friendly Ambassador. 

The day concluded with musical entertainment provided by the Mayo County Council Choir, adding a joyful and celebratory atmosphere to the occasion.

The Mayo Older Person’s Council Executive extends sincere thanks to all speakers, information stand holders, the TF Royal Hotel, Gary Monaghan, Edel O’Malley, MSP, Mayo County Council Choir and all who attended and contributed to the success of the event.
