Mayo's Logboy National School has been a hive of activity during the summer holidays with works on the 120-year-old building being completed thanks to a €180,000 grant from the Department of Education.

The grant has been spent modernising the school’s electrical and heating systems, as well as installing new flooring in one of the classrooms.

Much of the work has already been completed, with local contractor Kiltav completing the floor works.

“This substantial investment is expected to enhance the overall learning environment, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient space for students and staff alike,” explained school principal Karen Ronane.

“With this new funding, Logboy National School is now embarking on a comprehensive overhaul of these critical electrical and heating systems. The upgraded electrical infrastructure will not only improve safety but also support the integration of modern educational technologies, while the new heating system will ensure that classrooms remain warm and welcoming throughout the year.

“In addition to these vital upgrades, the senior classroom will receive brand-new flooring. This improvement is particularly significant as it addresses health and safety concerns related to the old, worn-out surfaces. The new flooring will provide a cleaner, more hygienic space for students, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the classroom.”

Pupils and parents will be invited to an open day before school reopens in September to see the improvements.
