Mayo managed to avoid the worst of two storms that made landfall in the West last weekend. Storm Elin brought 100km/h winds on Saturday as it moved downwards across the country, while Storm Fergus brought destruction throughout the country as Mayo was issued with an orange wind warning for Sunday afternoon.
The town of Ballyhaunis bore the brunt of strong winds from Storm Fergus in Mayo as 750 customers were without power from Sunday lunchtime, the issue has since resolved.
There was also damage in Co Roscommon as the towns of Boyle and Castlerea were without power on Sunday, with some still without power as of yesterday (Monday).
It was Leitrim village that saw the most devastation as homes and cars were seriously damaged after a possible tornado hit the area. Emergency services were called to the village on Sunday afternoon after high winds flattened trees, ripped a roof off a building and left debris scattered on a street. Footage of event went viral on social media.
