Man who died in Ballina residential fire named locally

A man who died in a fire in Ballina yesterday morning has been named locally as Dusan Ivan.

The deceased was a popular member of the community and a GoFundMe has been set up to assist his family at this difficult time.

At the time of writing, over €12,000 had been raised from 275 donors.

At approximately 8.15am yesterday morning, Gardaí received report of a fire at a residence on Tolan Street, Ballina.

Fire services extinguished the fire and made the area safe.

A male, Dusan Ivan, was located deceased in the residence and his body was removed from the scene to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem.

A second male was conveyed to University Hospital Mayo for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

Gardaí have said that enquiries are ongoing.
