Mayo woman Tara Nestor has been appointed Of Counsel at the leading business law firm, Mason Hayes & Curran. The Of Counsel role is reserved for senior lawyers with deep legal expertise, who support clients on specialised and complex matters.
Tara joins the firm’s Debt Capital Markets, Structured Finance & Derivatives team, where she advises banks and corporates on debt issuance: secured and unsecured; public and private; structured and plain vanilla.
Tara is from Ballyhaunis, where her parents founded Nestor & Co., a well-known local accountancy and tax advisory practice. She attended Ballyhaunis Community School before studying law at University College Galway. She later completed a Master of Laws at Trinity College Dublin.
Tara is a dual-qualified lawyer, admitted in Ireland and in England and Wales. Prior to joining Mason Hayes & Curran, she worked for an international law firm across Luxembourg, London and Dublin, advising on debt capital markets transactions.
Neil Campbell, Partner and Head of Financial Services at Mason Hayes & Curran, welcomed her appointment saying: "Tara has advised on cross-border financing transactions across major European markets and understands the regulatory pressures facing international clients. That is directly relevant to the work we do for banks and corporates raising finance through Ireland."
Daragh O'Shea, Partner and Head of Debt Capital Markets, Structured Finance & Derivatives at Mason Hayes & Curran, said: "Tara joins us at a busy time for debt capital markets and structured finance. Clients continue to look to Ireland for sophisticated investment structures, and we are seeing strong demand for specialised expertise in this area. Tara’s experience will add further strength to our team as that work continues to grow."
Commenting on her appointment, Tara said: "Ireland continues to be a key market for international debt issuance and securities listings. Disclosure requirements and the regulatory framework for listed debt continue to evolve across Europe, and clients are seeking clear, practical guidance as those changes take effect. There is a lot of interesting work ahead.”
