Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, has confirmed that three pieces of marine infrastructure in the county are to receive funding under the 2026 Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme.
This annual scheme supports capital investment in coastal infrastructure owned by local authorities, including pier and harbour repairs, slipway upgrades, safety enhancements, and the development of marine leisure amenities.
The allocations, announced by Minister for the Fisheries in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Timmy Dooley, are for:
- €135,000 for Ballina Quay – Accessibility Pontoon & Chair Lift
- €112,500 for Rosmoney, Westport – Slipway and Pontoon
- €75,000 for Purteen Pier – Stabilisation
Confirming the funding, Minister Calleary said:
“I am delighted to confirm this funding today which will provide essential support for marine infrastructure in the county, delivered through Mayo County Council. The support, announced today, is in addition to the support that is being provided by my own department to carry out emergency works at Roonagh Pier”
“I want to thank Minister Dooley and Minister for Agriculture, Martin Heydon, for their support with these projects in the county.”
In February, Minister Dooley announced €4.33 million in funding for the 2026 scheme. Applications totalling over 100 project proposals were received from 13 coastal Local Authority. Today’s announcement increases the allocation to €4.8 million providing funding for 57 nationwide projects and reflects both the active involvement of the local authorities and the wholehearted commitment of Government in supporting coastal communities.
Under the scheme, the Department will co-fund up to 75% of eligible project costs, subject to a maximum grant of €187,500 per project, with the balance provided by the respective local authorities.
