Louisburgh hopes for 'fine highway'

Cllr Chris Maxwell

A Louisburgh councillor has welcomed works on a section of the R335 road from Westport to Louisburgh.

Cllr Chris Maxwell told the December meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District that the works have "put the development of a fine highway all the way to Louisburgh on track".

“The R335 is a big bone of contention for me since becoming a councillor and I want to thank Head of Roads Conrad Harley and Mayo County Council for their involvement in getting the stretch of 3km up to Murrisk completed. There is an awful lot more to be done, but I especially congratulate O’Malley Contractors, they have done a wonderful job on that section.

"It is a fantastic job and the people are delighted with it, they needed it, it’s not before time and we are looking forward to getting the rest of it done."

The Independent Ireland councillor noted there is more to do, but he is happy with the progress.

"There is another 15km there and if it is done as efficiently, it will be a fine job. Even getting 4km or 5km a year done is great, the people of south Clew Bay thank you for that, and when we get the water completed to Louisburgh as well, we will have a fine highway hopefully all the way there then.”
