A leading West of Ireland orthodontic practice is celebrating 20 years in business.

David McConville Orthodontics has married exceptional customer care and cutting-edge technology and treatments over the course of two decades of dedicated and specialised service.

With clinics in Sligo and Donegal town, David McConville Orthodontics now boasts more than 20 staff and caters for both children and adults throughout the west and north-west.

Dr David McConville told the Western People that providing the best possible care to their patients is at the heart of everything they do.

“We try and do the best possible job we can. The best recommendation we can get is if someone tells a family member about us and then they come in for treatment as well. From the very first phone call someone makes to us we want to ensure that it’s a positive experience and carry that all the way through,” said Dr McConville.

He has treated generations of the same family and takes pride in that fact.

“It’s reassuring that people who were children when we first saw them and are now adults are happy to trust their own children with us,” said Dr McConville.

The practice is constantly evolving in line with the latest technological advances in the field.

“Braces now are so much more efficient, more gentle, less obvious. Everything is very digitally based now.

The days of taking physical moulds of people teeth are largely gone. Now it’s 3D cameras which are super accurate and captures the shape of your teeth,” said the orthodontist.

“We strive to stay on top of the technology and when something new is released we are often if not the first, one of the first in the country to have it,” he added.

The practice also seeks “We try and do the best possible job we can. The best recommendation we can get is if someone tells a family member about us and then they come in for treatment as well” to see children at a younger age that might have been traditional in the past. This allows for earlier and more successful intervention.

“I would much prefer to see the children when they are seven- or eight-year-old and you might do something a very simple intervention at that age which creates the space or eliminates whatever the problem was,” said Dr McConville.

The practice has an in house general dentist and hygienist in addition to orthodontists, nursing staff and the rest of the team.

Dr McConville and his team have identified the need for younger children who might be unable to access HSE services. The practice will soon be embarking on a free monthly clinic to help ensure some of those vital dental care milestones are not missed and to “give something back” after 20 years of support.

“Next month there is a clinic where we will see patients who are aged seven to 12-years old for a quick screen. It might be the case where there is nothing wrong and we would just advise go to your regular dentist for yearly check-ups. We might see them in a year’s time for an orthodontic review,” said Dr McConville.

“It will help people out who are really struggling and can’t get access to public health system while also trying to change the mindset that the time to see the orthodontist is 12 or 13 when you may miss the chance for certain types of intervention,” he added.

After reaching the 20-year milestone, David McConville Orthodontics will continue to do what it does best and ‘make great smiles.’
