All 11 homes in Mayo that received remedial works or were demolished through the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme were from the Ballina Municipal District.
The eleven homes in Mayo that received remedial works or were demolished through the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme in 2023 are all located in the Ballina Municipal District (MD).
As of November 30, 11 homes have been completed out of 357 submissions received. Some 258 applications are from Ballina MD with 237 moving forward to Stage 2, while 90 were received from the Westport-Belmullet MD, five from Claremorris-Swinford MD and four from Castlebar MD. Two applications were refused and one withdrawn.
The figures were made available at last week's meeting of Mayo County Council's Housing Strategic Policy Committee (SPC). The chairman Cllr Patsy O’Brien complimented the council's housing department for its work throughout the year. He also complimented the committee in Mayo that represents the people who have had problems with pyrite.
"They have gone to the Minister themselves and we also had a Department of Housing official here on two occasions.
“There was a very worthwhile meeting here recently, where points were brought up by the committee. You can’t beat it when the people who are involved, and are actually affected by it, bring the questions forward. They’ve improved the scheme as much as they can, but there are still issues. But Mayo is doing its share.”
