West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, said a fond farewell to Jimmy Tighe last week as he retired on Friday, July 25. Jimmy had been at the heart of the centre for years, always ready for a chat, a laugh, and a helping hand. His kindness and genuine care for people made a real difference to everyone who came through the door, and Jimmy will be missed more than he knows. As a proud Sligo man, Jimmy still cheered on Mayo for Sam and was delighted when they brought it across the Shannon. All at West Sligo FRC wish Jimmy the very best in his well- earned retirement.
Well done to Marty Duffy, Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club who was the time official for this years All Ireland SFC final. He was based in the control room with the Hawk Eye official and was wired to the referee on a live feed. Marty’s job was to stop the clock when there was a stoppage or when the referee requested. At certain set times Marty would count down 5 minutes to go, 1 minute to go, 30 seconds to go and he counted the last 10 seconds down to the hooter.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, July 26, were 20, 28 and 32. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Willy McKinley, Phil Duffy, Kieran Conway and Majella Coleman. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, August 2, in Hopkin’s Bar, was €4200.

A six week Teens Connect wellness programme for young people aged 13-17 will take place on Enniscrone beach starting Thursday, August 6, at 6.30pm. It is a chance to get outdoors, try new activities, meet new people and take some time for yourself. The programme includes surfing, yoga, woodland activities and connection and wellbeing. The Fairy House Handicraft summer camp for little artists, aged 5-12, will take place from Monday, August 17 to Friday, August 21, from 10am-2pm, at Kilglass Parish Community Centre, Kilglass. Easkey Meals on Wheels are looking for volunteer weekend drivers for the Enniscrone area. Volunteers would need to be available between 11.45am and 1.30pm on a Saturday or Sunday once a month. They would need a full, clean driving licence, and would need to be willing to complete a Garda vetting form.
