Key tips for Mayo households with cold snap
Uisce Éireann is reminding households in Mayo to take a few simple steps to protect their homes ahead of the cold snap this weekend, and help avoid a disrupted water supply and potentially expensive repairs.
A sudden drop in temperature can cause pipes to freeze and burst, especially following periods of heavy rainfall which may have left the ground unstable, or caused damage to pipework inside and outside the house.
By preparing now, homeowners can avoid unnecessary stress and damage during cold snaps.
Practical tips for households:
Margaret Attridge, Head of Water Operations at Uisce Éireann, said: “We know how upsetting and disruptive burst pipes can be for families and businesses. Taking just a few simple steps now can make all the difference during a cold snap. By insulating pipes, checking for small leaks and knowing where your stop valve is, you can really reduce the risk of damage in your home.”
