MUH currently has 85 vacant posts
Mayo University Hospital (MUH) currently has 85 vacant posts, including 46 full-time and 39 temporary.
A large portion of these positions have become vacant since last July and August.
The information was supplied to Cllr Michael Kilcoyne at the September meeting of the Regional Health Forum West and North West. Cllr Kilcoyne noted that there were 50 vacant posts in nursing and midwifery, adding that it was "a lot".
HSE executive staff member Ann Cosgrove responded: “In any service you always have a level of turnover of around 5%, it is just the nature of it. People move on, get promoted. Recruitment is slower at the moment as we are challenged in relation to our pay bill.”
Integrated Health Area Manager for Mayo, Mary Warde, added: “There is still a level of recruitment for a number of permanent positions and that is ongoing and there are also some agency conversions, but yes, there are slight delays with a number of posts.”
Acknowledging a freeze being applied to recruitment of temporary staff, Ms Cosgrove added: “Posts for approval have to go through a process. We are not sure what further escalation there will be, we expect to be notified in the coming weeks.”
