Dates revealed on oldest record books at Mayo University Hospital

Patient records are held for 45 years at Mayo University Hospital (MUH), it has been revealed. 

Castlebar-based Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne queried the matter at the February meeting of the Regional Health Forum West and Northwest.

Cllr Kilcoyne and was advised by management: “Patient information is held by MUH as per the HSE National Records Retention Policy. 

"The oldest records [at the hospital] are Operations and Anaesthetics Record Books dated June 1979.”
