Great sadness in Mayo following passing of County Board Chairman Seamus Tuohy

A dark cloud of sadness and sorrow has been cast over the Mayo GAA community following the passing of County Board chairman Seamus Tuohy.
The head of the County Executive passed away yesterday following a battle with illness, borne with courage and dignity.
Mr Tuohy’s involvement with GAA in this county spans decades and numerous roles culminating in his election as chairman in December 2021.
The Breaffy clubman gave sterling service to his county as Chairman and represented Mayo with pride since his election.
As chair, he overseen a number of major milestones within Mayo GAA including the county’s first All-Ireland title victory in 75 years earlier this year.
Mayo County Council’s Civic Reception for the Mayo team and management planned for this Friday has been postponed as a mark of respect. Head of Corporate Development & Communications with the Council Martina Hughes paid tribute to the late Mr Tuohy.
“It is with great sadness that Mayo County Council has learned of the passing of Mr. Seamus Tuohy, Chairman of Mayo GAA County Board.” “On behalf of the Cathaoirleach, the Elected Members, Chief Executive, Kevin Kelly, and the staff of Mayo County Council, I wish to extend our sincere sympathies to the Tuohy family and to his colleagues and friends throughout Mayo GAA at this difficult time,” she said.
His funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later today.
