The 22nd Annual Ballina GOAL Mile was another resounding success. With over 600 people of all ages taking part in beautiful weather on Christmas Day morning, some ran, some walked and some came for a chat and availed of the refreshments provided by the businesses of Ballina.

It was a very relaxed event with a great atmosphere, where some renewed acquaintances with people they had not met since the previous year and some dropped in enroute to their homeplace for Christmas dinner – an appetite built up for the dinner ahead.

The organisers wish to thank all the local businesses who provided refreshments for the morning – Carr’s Lord Edward Street, Tuffy’s Gala, Eurogiant, Wispy’s, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Ballina Beverages, Casey’s Londis. Thanks also to all the volunteers who ensured the smooth running of the event: John McLoughlin, Catherine Gillespie, Peter Gillespie, Conor Langan, Mary McBrearty, John Mattimoe, Aoife Dowling and Marion Mattimoe.

In total, a wonderful amount of €5,002.50 was raised on the morning, with more funds still promised.
