Galway driver caught doing 149km/h on 120km/h on National Slow Down day

A Galway driver was recorded driving 149km/h on a 120km/h speed limit within the first five hours of National Slow Down Day.

The speed was detected ont he M6 at An Carn, Mór Thiar Órán Mór.

The operation started at 7am on Friday morning. They will be checking motorists over Christmas and the New Year to prevent further deaths.

In the first five hours of the final National Slow Down day of 2023, GoSafe checked the speed of 28,569 vehicles and detected 120 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

So far, 181 people have died on Irish roads this year, an increase of 29 on this time last year.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
