Fines issued after discovery of 'treacherous' vehicles on Mayo road

In two separate recent checkpoints carried out in Mayo, Gardai from the Mayo Roads Policing Unit discovered two vehicles whose tyres were found to be in treacherous condition.
An Garda Síochána Mayo stated: "It goes without saying that these tyres could lead to a terrible accident, especially in the case of a tyre blowing out or in the case of emergency braking, there would be minimum grip on the road surface."
Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued in these instances, and the drivers now face a fine of €80 for each tyre and two penalty points added to their driving licence.
