Moving tributes were given today at the funeral of 19-year-old Harry Fagan who lost his life in a recent road accident.

The crash, involving a tractor and a car, happened on the N83 at Lavallyroe last Friday night.

The funeral mass of Harry, from Lavalleyroe, Cloonfad, Ballyhaunis, took place at St Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad today.

Three of Harry’s brothers, Gerard, Daniel and Shane, gave a heart-warming, joint eulogy. The boys described their brother as “larger than life” and “utterly unique.”

“No amount of time will fill the void left behind by his absence. Harry wasn't just another face in this world. He was bright, fierce and an unstoppable, wild force. His life ended far too soon. In the time he had, he filled every corner of it with love, laughter, and the kind, wild energy that could never be continued.”

The eulogy reminisced on Harry’s love of cars, his fondness of Chocolate Digestives and his incredible sense of humour. Additionally, his brothers took care to emphasise Harry’s love for his family and girlfriend Kate.

Harry’s family paid tribute to 13-year-old James Daniels, who was also fatally injured in the road accident.

“Our hearts go out to the families as they bear the deep sorrow of losing James. James wasn’t a friend, he was family to us. We loved him like he was one of our own and his loss is felt just as deeply in the Fagan family. May he rest in peace.”

Harry’s brother concluded the eulogy: “As you probably all know, music and singing is a huge part of this family. Dad is well known for singing The Green Fields of France. While I was walking this morning, I sadly realised our Harry is the one who will be forever 19. The world feels quieter without him, and our family will never be the same. But even in this darkness, we will carry him with us. In every laugh, every memory, every story, Harry will live on. His wild spirit will remain in our hearts. And though he is not with us physically, he will never truly leave us. Harry, you are loved more than words can say and you will be missed more than we can ever express…Harry Fagan, forever 19.”

Fr Joe Feeney shared words of comfort for the family during his homily.

“As we face the great loss, and as we face the future, this family that has suffered a great loss, as Harry’s family has, suffered the loss of a young man who everyone loved, knew what work was and was prepared to learn more. He always had many friends around him and a great personality.”
