Over the weekend, several life buoys along the Castlebar Greenway were thrown into the river.

Cllr Ger Deere stated: "This is not only disrespectful to our community but also extremely dangerous.

He continued: "These life-saving devices are there for a reason! They could be the difference between life and death in an emergency. With the river running high at the moment, they are absolutely essential and must be respected at all times.

"Tampering with or removing a life buoy isn’t a harmless prank or Halloween fun but a reckless action that puts real lives at risk. We ask everyone to take pride in our shared spaces, look out for one another, and report any misuse immediately.

"Lifebuoys save lives!"
