Extra bus services for Mayo following cancelled route move

Extra bus services for Mayo following cancelled route move

The new services get underway later this month.

It has been confirmed that Irish Citylink will run eight daily return services between Ballina and Galway from 25 May, following the withdrawal of Bus Éireann’s Route 52.

The service will include three additional return journeys, helping to protect an important bus link for people across Mayo between Ballina and Galway.

The news has been welcomed by Mayo TDs.

“This brings to eight the number of daily services from North Mayo serving Ballina, Foxford, Ballyvary, Castlebar, Balla, Claremorris and Ballindine, essentially providing a replacement service for Bus Eireann Route 52,” said Minister Dara Calleary.

“My thanks to the National Transport Authority and Minister Sean Canney for their assistance in securing this essential service for Mayo,” the Ballina TD added.

“This is welcome news for students, commuters, families and older people across Mayo who depend on this bus service every week.

“When concerns were raised about the withdrawal of Route 52, I contacted the NTA and Minister of State for Transport Sean Canney to make clear how important this route is for towns and villages along the Ballina to Galway corridor,” said Minister of State Alan Dillon.

Irish Citylink has confirmed it will continue its existing Ballina to Galway services and add extra capacity from May 25.
