Exciting plans for Mayo sports club move a step closer

Councillors in the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District have put forward a proposal for consideration at the main meeting of Mayo County Council later this month regarding the sale of land for facilities for Ballinrobe Town Football Club.
The 9.808-acre site on The Neale Road, Ballinrobe will be sold to the club for €102,500 to allow them to develop playing facilities. A large plot of land had been initially purchased for the development of a new graveyard and this 9.808 section had been deemed surplus for those works. Ballinrobe Town currently plays its games at The Green in the town.
Proposing to councillors that they support the sale of the land, Fine Gael Cllr Michael Burke wished the club well with its development plans and ongoing fundraising efforts. The club is currently preparing for a Jungle Challenge fundraiser taking place on May 31 in the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris.
“This is a great proposal for Ballinrobe and for the soccer club. It has over 400 members and is a fantastic club,” said Cllr Burke.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Damien Ryan seconded the item.
“This is for the benefit of sport in the town and it is something that portrays Ballinrobe in a really positive light.”
Independent Cllr Patsy O’Brien also welcomed the initiative.
“This is a good news story for Ballinrobe. It is good for the town and for the surrounding areas.”
