Exciting details confirmed about new pub in Mayo county town

The former Bosh premises, closed since 2018, will have a new lease of life soon as it is set to re-open as 'The Barrel & Castle'.

After a near six-year absence, the old Bosh premises on Linenhall Street in Castlebar is to be transformed into the town's first "brasserie-style" venue called The Barrel & Castle early in 2024.

Spearheaded by the acclaimed publicans Joe and Marian O'Malley of the award-winning bars The Porter House and Cosy Joe's in Westport, the phenomenal transformation of the old premises is a must see.

The venue will accommodate for over 200 guests and features an all-encompassing menu complete with a brunch, lunch, dinner as well as a Sunday lunch offering.

Upon entering The Barrel & Castle, the newly transformed glass opulent bar is described as 'truly mesmerising'.

The high ceiling main bar, dazzling displays, the amber and brass lighting and the antique gold finishes, bring together a luxurious and perfectly contemporary touch of elegance.

The kitchen will serve food from 12 noon to 8 pm daily, seven days per week, with a selection of classic dishes such as Yellow Thai Curry, the traditional burger and an array of top quality steaks.

Sitting alongside the locally inspired dishes is a selection of tantalizing cocktails to enjoy, cocktails exclusive to The Barrel & Castle.

In addition to the main restaurant and three indoor bars, The Barrel & Castle also boasts a beautiful garden area where guests can enjoy al fresco dining under an enclosed canopy, warm heaters and furthermore another ostentatious outdoor bar area mirroring the beauty of the main venue. The state-of-the-art glass stair case, combined with the ambient lighting, is sure to be the place for any special occasion.

Joe O'Malley said: “It is with huge excitement that we open in Castlebar, something we have wanted to do for some time. Every bit of attention to detail has gone into “The Barrel and Castle”, with huge praise to all the team involved to date.

"We now look to create between 30 to 40 new jobs in the area, offering the best standard and quality within the hospitality scene."
