Duffy to join Fine Gael ticket for General Election

Cllr Mark Duffy

Ballina Municipal District Independent Councillor Mark Duffy confirms he intends to run in the General Election and will seek a nomination for the Fine Gael ticket for Mayo following approaches from the party locally.

It is expected that he will join the party's ticket in the coming days, along with Mayo-Roscommon Hospice CEO Martina Jennings. Alan Dillon and Keira Keogh were selected to run in the General Election at the party's Selection Convention last month.

"I am delighted to confirm that I will be contesting the upcoming General Election, seeking a nomination on the Fine Gael ticket for Mayo," said Cllr Duffy.

"Over the past week I have held extensive negotiations and discussions with Fine Gael members, the Fine Gael organisation locally as well as Taoiseach Simon Harris to get firm commitments on the delivery of long sought after projects for Mayo."

In the past number of days, Cllr Duffy met with Cathaoirleach of Mayo Co.Co. Cllr John O’Hara and Cllr Jarlath Munnelly who both welcomed Cllr Duffy to the Fine Gael team in Ballina and expressed support in working with him.

Darragh Loftus of Fine Gael Mayo said: "We are thrilled to have worked closely with Cllr Mark Duffy and our Constituency Chairperson Jim Higgins with the hope of securing Mark's candidacy this week."

"Mark embodies the vision of our Taoiseach and Party Leader Simon Harris—a new team running with renewed energy. I look forward to working with Mark in the coming months as we build a strong campaign for the upcoming election.”
