Driving test backlog is 'not acceptable'

There is a significant number of people on the waiting list for a driving test, according to a Sligo councillor
A local councillor has called on the Minister for Transport to address the dressing test backlog as 716 people are currently waiting on driving tests in County Sligo.
South Sligo Cllr Dara Mulvey has said that the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has 716 customers in Sligo who are awaiting an appointment to sit a driving test, which simply is not good enough.
“This figure is not acceptable, particularly for many young people living in rural parts of Sligo who are wishing to obtain a full license, which can be a lifeline for them to gain independence for work or leisure through a full driving license," he said.
“I am calling on the minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan to put a plan in place to tackle the backlog and to assist the excellent staff at the Sligo driving test centre,” added Cllr Mulvey.
