Deep sadness in Ballina following passing of popular young man

There is deep sadness in the Ballina community following the passing of Richard Loftus, “Siena”, Foxford Road, Ballina, after a courageous battle with illness.
Richard was a young man from a family held within high esteem in the local community. He attended St Muredach’s College where he made many treasured friends and he was known as an avid sportsperson, involved in many local clubs.
President of Ballina Rugby FC Daragh Quinn said Richard’s passing has brought great sadness to everyone at the club.
“Sadly, Richard Loftus, son of Marc and Deirdre (nee Duffy), brother of Harry, Chloe and Zara, a wonderful young member of our club, has passed away after battling illness very bravely.
"Richard's passing brings great sadness to his family, our club and our community. Richard and his family have been at the epicentre of everything in Ballina Rugby Club for all of his short life.
"The Loftus family are in the midst of our thoughts and prayers at this sad time."
Richard also represented Ballina Stephenites with distinction and they paid the following tribute.
“Richard represented the club with distinction at underage level and is fondly remembered by his former teammates and all associated with Ballina Stephenites. A true gentleman, Richard will always be held in the highest regard and remembered with deep affection.” Reposing at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday, October 3 at 5pm-7pm. Funeral will arrive at St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Saturday, October 4 for requiem mass at 1.30pm followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery.
