Woman was shouting in garda station

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
A Castlebar woman who became involved in a public order incident has been ordered to donate to a Garda welfare charity.
Ellen Maughan, aged 47, Bay 1, Halting Site, Knockaphunta, Castlebar pleaded guilty at the local district court to failing to comply with a direction from a Garda.
The court heard that Gda Ciaran Reilly was dealing with a member of the public at Castlebar Garda Station on October 30 last when the defendant entered the building and began shouting aggressively. When asked to calm down by the Gardaí, she would not desist and was arrested.
Maughan has no previous convictions. No victim impact statement was forthcoming.
Solicitor Tom Walsh said his client was on her way to the station to make a complaint about a person who had made derogatory remarks about her child, but on arriving there she found this same person in the foyer.
“She accepts she should have been more mannerly,” the solicitor said.
Judge Fiona Lydon ordered Maughan to donate €300 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
