Woman verbally abused security staff at concert

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court. 

A young woman was arrested after she verbally abused security staff at a concert in Castlebar.

Rhiannon McHugh, aged 20, of 10 Abbey View, Ballinrobe pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to two public order breaches.

Sgt Conor McShane said Gardaí received a complaint that a woman who attended a concert at the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on August 27, 2023, had become abusive to security staff. The defendant was observed a short time later by officers outside the venue running towards the security men and shouting in an extremely aggressive manner.

McHugh was arrested and brought to Castlebar Garda Station where she was later charged.

The defendant has six previous convictions for criminal damage, drugs, assault, and public order-related offences.

Solicitor Cathy McDarby said her client consumed a large amount of alcohol on the night.

The defendant was "embarrassed by her actions".

Judge Vincent Deane convicted the defendant and imposed a fine of €350.
