Woman stole from Castlebar stores

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
A mother of three who stole more than €100 worth of items from two stores in Castlebar has been fined.
Una McDonagh, of 11 The Grove, Castlebar pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to theft from Mr Price and Penneys.
The court heard that Gda Liam Gaughan received a report on January 23, 2022, that there had been a theft at Mr Price in Castlebar. He viewed CCTV footage and observed the accused pick up several reusable shopping bags and 12 large bars of Dairymilk chocolate with a total value of €64.
On October 8, 2022, McDonagh stole two clothing items, valued at €38, from Penneys in Castlebar. The goods were not recovered.
McDonagh has 21 previous convictions, 17 of which are for theft offences.
Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said his client has appeared in front of several judges in the district court in Castlebar and should know better. At the time of the offending, McDonagh’s husband had been sent to prison which led to a lot of "turmoil".
“She has brought compensation for both stores,” the solicitor said.
Mr Mulchrone said McDonagh is hopeful of putting her past behind her and wants to focus on her family.
Judge Vincent Deane imposed a fine of €200 and gave the defendant six months to pay.
