Speeding motorist in court for failing to pay on-the-spot fine

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
A motorist who drove at 152km/h in a 100km/h zone has been fined.
Thomas Alan Ackroyd, of Cloonshanbo, Claremorris, pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to the offence.
The court heard that gardaí were operating a speed checkpoint at the Castlebar bypass of the N5 when Ackroyd was intercepted. A fixed charge penalty notice went unpaid. Ackroyd has seven previous convictions for road traffic matters.
Solicitor Cathy McDarby said the penalty notice went to Ackroyd's mother’s address and her client failed to collect it. He wished to apologise for his actions.
Judge Michael Connellan imposed a fine of €300.
