Speeding driver was found to be drunk

The defendant pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.
An intoxicated motorist was arrested after his speeding caught the attention of Gardaí.
Sean Conway, aged 32, of Ard Abhainn, Foxford pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court to drink driving.
Gda Padraig Naughton told the court he was operating a speed checkpoint at Sonnagh, Charlestown at 6.58am on June 5, 2022, when he detected a vehicle travelling at 103km/hr in an 80km/hr zone.
Gda Naughton pursued the vehicle and stopped it at Cartron, Charlestown. He spoke to the driver, Sean Conway, and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving.
A sample of Conway’s breath gave a reading of 102mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg.
Conway has no previous convictions.
Solicitor Augusta Tuohy told the court her client works locally. He had completed the Pro-Social Driving Course and Prime for Life course in advance of the court case.
“He hugely regrets the decision to get in the car and is remorseful,” she said.
Judge Fiona Lydon imposed a three-year driving disqualification and a fine of €250.
