Solicitor has ‘exhausted all efforts’ on client

A man who was roaring and shouting at people while drunk appeared before a sitting of Belmullet District Court.
James Deane, of Ferry Close, Pullathomas, pleaded guilty to two public order offences.
At 10pm on July 12, 2023, gardaí observed Deane in the Docklands area of Belmullet. He was roaring and shouting at people and became ‘slightly aggressive’ when approached by officers.
Deane is already in custody on other matters.
Solicitor Michael Bohan, representing Deane, admitted he had ‘exhausted all efforts’ in relation to his client.
“He is the nicest man in the world when he is sober. Smart, placid, tuned in,” said Mr Bohan.
Mr Bohan pleaded with the Judge not to add to his current sentence which is due to expire next month.
Judge Fiona Lydon said she would not impose a custodial sentence but implored Deane to take up all the necessary supports to improve his life.
The case was adjourned until November 8 for finalisation.
