Mayo teen died in motorbike accident

The inquest heard that the accident occurred on the old Westport Road near Castlebar.
An inquest has been opened into the death of a teenager who died in a motorcycle collision near Castlebar last March.
Kacper Swierkowski, aged 18, of Knockaphunta Park, Castlebar died when his motorcycle crashed at Cloonkeen on the Old Westport Road, Castlebar, on March 13 last.
An inquest at Swinford Courthouse was told that Sgt Joan Grady attended the scene where she observed a motorcycle on its side in the verge of the road. Ambulance and fire personnel were already present and the deceased was pronounced dead at the scene.
Consultant pathologist Dr Fedel Bennani told the inquest that the medical cause of death was severe brain and spinal cord injuries from a road traffic accident. A sample of Mr Swierkowski’s blood tested negative for the presence of drugs or alcohol.
Mayo coroner Patrick O’Connor extended his sympathies to Mr Swierkowski’s family, friends and fellow students from Davitt College, Castlebar.
The coroner adjourned the inquest until An Garda Síochána has completed its investigation.
